The Shooting In Texas

No doubt you have heard about the shooting in the church in Texas yesterday. A shooter by the name of Devin Kelly, who had been dishonorably discharged from the Air Force, took a weapon and shot up the church. People were killed both outside and inside the church. There have been at least 26 killed and 20 injured. Many others have been traumatized by this sickening event.

As of this time, the motive has not been revealed. Let me tell you what I suspect. I want to be clear that this is a pure supposition on my part.

About a month ago I was reading about Antifa was, on YouTube, calling for an assault to begin their revolution on November 5th. They called for assaulting the homes and place of conservatives, especially supporters of President Trump. The goal is to kill all Trump supporters.

I believe the reason they chose that date is, it is the day that Guy Fox was caught in the Gun Power Plot to blow up Parliament and kill King James I, who was a protestant. I grew up in England and we were taught the rhyme, “Remember, remember, the 5th of November.”

Guy Fox was a Catholic who wanted to bring back a Catholic king. The plot was discovered and he was found guilty. He was drawn and quartered. His entrails and body were thrown on the fire. Every year, on November 5th, we shoot off fireworks to show the gun power, and light bonfires to celebrate the stopping of this plot. We also throw an effigy of Guy Fox on the fire.

November 5th is a date for rebellion, and I believe that Antifa was going to use this date to start there rebellion. Saturday I had a warning in our weekly email news letter, which you can subscribe to on the right, about this. In the later reports on this, November 4th became the date they were going to use for their rallies and their marches. That really didn’t amount to much, so I dropped my guard on this when nothing happened on Saturday.

My supposition is, the shooter may have been from the left, Antifa, Black Lives Matter, or some similar group. His goal may have been to kill Trump supporters, and conservative churches tend to be Trump supporters. Remember, this is but supposition on my part.

It is also possible that there could be a tie to Islam. This event fits well in the tactic of Muslim fundamentalists. We will learn more as the investigation continues.

As we would expect when something like this happens, the left is calling for taking away our guns. It was reported last night that there are more than one billion guns owned by private citizens in America. There is no way to take them all away. If they start disarming the country, the only guns they will get are from those who are law abiding citizens. Some will feel it is their duty to obey the law, and will turn in their guns. There are many who will not do so. They will be obeying the law found in the Constitution that gives us the right to keep and bear arms. The purpose of the Second Amendment is for the people to have arms so they can protect themselves form a state that becomes tyrannical.

Our founders knew that, to give the power to the people, you had to arm the people. The Second Amendment not only give us the right to keep and bear arms, it gives us the right to set up militias (private armies).

I believe that if they try to take away our guns, it will launch a civil war. I am not saying I support this, but I do believe it will happen.

We want to blame the instrument, the gun, rather than the person who commits the act. Our country has refused to look at God’s point of view on this. We are God’s creations, and He knows us better than we know ourselves. We are fallen creatures with desperately wicked hearts.

The heart [is] deceitful above all [things], and desperately wicked: who can know it? (Jeremiah 17:9)

The reason Devin Kelly could do something like this is, he suffers from the human condition, he is a fallen man. He is capable of doing this kind of thing because of sin.

The world wants to say that man is good and only does bad things because of outward influences. Our founding fathers knew the real problem. The things they said made it very clear that they understood the wickedness of the human heart.

Washington’s Farewell Address has been missing from college text books – largely due to its religious content. He pointed out that that the two foundations for political prosperity were religion and morality.He said:

“Of all the dispositions and habits which lead to political prosperity, religion and morality are indispensible supports. In vain would that man claim the tribute of patriotism, who should labor to subvert these great pillars.”

“Let it simply be asked, ‘Where is the security for life, for reputation and for property, if the sense of religious obligation desert?”

In essence he said, you can’t be a patriot in America if you try to take away religion and morality. How are you going to secure life and property if our religious obligation deserts us?

Our founders knew that Government and their laws could not cause people to do good.

Thomas Jefferson said:

“the precepts of philosophy laid hold of action only… (but Jesus) pushed his scrutinizes into the heart of man, erected his tribunal in the region of his thoughts, and he purified the waters at the fountainhead.”

He was referring to Matthew 5 where the law say don’t kill, but Jesus said don’t hate. If you prevent the hate, you will prevent the crime of murder. The law says don’t commit adultery, but Jesus said don’t lust. If you control the lust, you control the adultery.

If you deal with what is in the heart of man, and the only way to do this is through morality and religion, you will solve the problem. People need to know that they are sinners, and that they will stand before a holy God to be judged for their sin. They need a Saviour to overcome their sin nature. This gives an inner control that no external law can provide.

Our Founders pointed out to us that only religion can stop crime before it gets started! The legal system they gave us was based upon the fact that we were a religious people, and that our religion would control our passions.

Because all crime comes out of the heart, if you can’t control the heart, you can’t control crime.

John Adams said:

”There is no government in the world able to make a person to do what is right or able to control those who do not wish to be controlled…..”

“We have no government armed with power capable of contending with human passions unbridled by morality and religion.”

“Our constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.”

If you take away morality and religion, the human passions will have nothing to control them. No law is capable of stopping a crime before it happens. The law can only punish after it happens.

We are living in a day where we should expect crimes like this shooting because we have tried to take religion out of the public square. We have thrown prayer and God out of our schools. The only possible result is what happened yesterday, and what happens far too often.

Yesterday my son and his wife were with us for lunch. He is a public school teacher. He told us about a psychologist that came to teach them about dealing with student behavior. She said the reason why these children are misbehaving is not that they are being rebellious. It could be that they are unable to obey you. They are living in a time when their stress level is so high that everything to them is fight or flight. They don’t know how to deal with things and when they don’t obey, it is not rebellion, it is that they are unable to do what they are told to do. As psychologists are prone to do, she blamed bad experiences in their lives, rather than the child’s rebellion.

She went on to say that, because of evolution, these traits will be passed on to their children. The whole idea is that they are not responsible for what they are doing. When children won’t sit still, they are excused because they have some alphabet soup illness and they can’t help themselves.

The world wants to give pseudo scientific explanations for these things, God says it is just sin. The world wants to say it is not the fault of the disobedient, and nothing can be done. God says it can be dealt with, but to do so we need to allow God back into our society.

The fallen nature of man makes it impossible for us to solve the problem by purely human means. All of the psychobabble of the psychologist will not fix the problem. We must first understand the cause of the problem if we intend to do what is necessary to solve it. As long as we try to keep God out if the equation, and try to find silly solutions, it will only get worse.

If there ever was a time where we need God, it is now. If we keep pushing God out of our society, out of our public sphere, God will keep removing His hand of protection from us. If He removes His protecting hand, we are without hope.

Our hearts go out to the families of those who were killed and to all who were injured in this shooting. We need to keep them in our prayers.

Let me close by saying we need to pray for those who are caught up in this psychobabble. They have been told that God is not the answer. If we would turn from the psychobabble, and return to God, maybe we could prevent some of these things from happening.
