Christians in Politics

Tom Wallace

We are facing one of the most important elections in American history. In normal times, the party of the President loses seats in the House of Representatives in mid-term elections. We are in anything but normal times. We really don’t know what will happen in this election.

What Makes This Election So Special?

We are facing a revolution in the United States. There is a revolution on the left promoting Marxism, Antifa, and mob violence against the other side. They are trying to take away our freedoms and impose their left-wing political ideas on the rest of America. They have shown that they will do whatever it takes to suppress all opposing thought.

What God Says About Government

Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD; and the people whom he hath chosen for his own inheritance. (Psalms 33:12)

When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn. (Proverbs 29:2)

When we have God-fearing people in government the people rejoice. This is because we follow God’s precepts in the government of our country. When we, as Christians, neglect our duty as citizens by not voting, we allow wicked people to rule. As a result of this neglect, the people mourn. We, as Christians, have the duty to be informed about those running for political office, and to vote for those who have the most righteous standards.

Our nation has been blessed because the God of the Bible has been the God of America. I am not saying that all, or even the majority of Americans, are, or were true Christians, but the majority once respected the God of the Bible and His rules as found in the Ten Commandments.

Today, we have replaced God with men. We follow the precepts of men rather than the precepts of God in government.

Christians Could Sway Any Election

I believe that there are enough Christians who, if they voted, could sway any election in America. The problem is, the Christian voice is often silent because most of them don’t vote.

There are somewhere between 85 and 94 million Evangelicals in America. In addition to this, there are about 81 million Catholics. This makes those who claim to be Christians a very large voting bloc. Our influence would be great if we simply exercised our rights, especially our right to vote.

There are over 300,000 Evangelical churches across America. That averages about 6,000 churches per state. These churches meet at least once a week. Look at the influence we could have if we would work together in a common cause to put God-fearing men in government. We have a huge network of influence if we would simply mobilize it. Also, most of the major talk shows on radio are conservative, and there are thousands of Christian broadcasters across the land. The liberals have the main-stream media. They have Hollywood. They are not afraid to use their network they have to promote their ideas. Why are we afraid to use ours?

Those who don’t vote because they don’t think their vote matters make up a much greater group than those who do vote. There are enough professing Christians in this country, who don’t vote, to carry any election.

Some Statistics

  • In the average church in America, only 50% of the adult membership is registered to vote.
  • Only half of those who are registered bother to vote in a Presidential election.

This means that only 25% of church members ever bother to vote in a Presidential election. Even less vote in mid-term elections. This is a shameful neglect of our civic duty as American citizens. Voting is not only a right, it is an obligation of citizens of a free state. If we don’t vote, the state in which we live will cease to be free.

Thoughts About Government

Remember, it is God who instituted government. We are privileged in America to choose who governs us. Sadly, very few will get involved in making the choice. Because Christians are not involved in our government, the anti-God forces are taking over our nation. Remember, when the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice.

We need to work to get righteous, God-fearing people in political office. The politicians that we allow in office make our laws and select the judges in our courts. This is an important part of our governing process.

Jesus said we are the salt and light in this world. If we don’t get the salt out of the saltshaker and turn on the light, we are neglecting our duty before God. Salt heals and light exposes. We need to be standing up and exposing the dangers of the anti-God forces if we want our nation healed.

People say they are fed up with Washington and with politics, but who puts those people in place? It is us, the voters. If we don’t like what we see, we have the power to remove them and replace them with righteous people.

God’s Judgment

There is always an order to God’s judgment. First He sends preachers to warn the people to turn back to Him. The preachers warn of painful judgment if the people don’t repent. If you study the Bible you will see that God often judges a nation by raising up an enemy. We see it over and over again with Israel.

God has not changed His order in judgment. I, and other preachers I know, have been preaching coming judgment for years. As we look at the world today, we see an enemy that has come to the forefront. It is causing pain for the US and the rest of the world. That enemy is Islam. I believe it is God’s judgment for our turning our backs on Him.

Many think that the election of President Trump is our salvation. I hope you are not one of them. The answer is not in the White House. Even though most of our problems come from Washington, Washington is not the solution. The answer is in the church house. We need a real Holy Ghost revival if we want to see our problems solved.

Things could be worse; we could have Hilary as President. The election of Donald Trump may have given us a reprieve, but it will only last for a while if we don’t change. It may be that God has given us one more opportunity of turn back to Him. If we don’t, we can be sure more judgment will come.

There is another enemy in America. Our problems are spiritual, but they are manifested in physical ways. This enemy is rebellion against any authority, especially against God. The only real solution to our problems is nation-wide repentance.

Although our problems cannot be solved by political measures, we as Christians need to be involved in the political process. Without our involvement in the political process we will lose the freedom to work toward revival. Our freedoms of religion and speech are being abridged by the political left.

Islam is trying to overthrow our government by both physical and cultural jihad. The political left is trying to overthrow our government by using judges and laws to override the Constitution.

The political left is becoming more and more Marxist in their policies and their actions. I always thought that liberals and the left were one in the same, but they are not. True liberals are, in many ways, similar to conservatives. In our schools, our young people have been taught that the conservatives are evil. They have been fooled into joining hands with the left in the Democrat Party.

The left is dedicated to overthrowing our way of life and making us servants of the state. In our system, the state is to be the servant of the people.

Where Liberals and the Left Differ

  • Liberals believe in integration of races. The left believes in segregation and divides by race.
  • Liberals are for capitalism but want government to manage it. The left oppose it and wants socialism or Marxism.
  • Liberals believe in a nation state and want to protect its sovereignty and its borders. The left believes in open borders and globalism. They are citizens of the world, not of a nation.
  • Liberals are proud to be Americans and are patriotic. The left hates America and thinks it is the cause of all of the world’s problems.
  • Liberals are for free speech. The left condemns any speech that does not agree with them and will do all it can to suppress it.
  • Liberals want to protect the culture of western civilization. The left believes that western civilization is no better than any other culture, and that it is worse than many. It sees the western culture as nothing more than white supremacy.

There was a time when the Democrat Party had more in common with conservatives, but they have give the Party over to socialists and Marxists.

I must ask, how can a Christian vote for the Democrat platform? It is against everything righteous. It supports abortion, same-sex marriage, and homosexuality. The Bible clearly teaches that these things are an abomination to God. Marriage is between a male and a female. Someone who kills an unborn baby is put to death. Sodomy is clearly condemned.

It is their support of these evils that made the Democrats oppose the Kavanaugh nomination. They are afraid that a conservative court will overturn the laws making these evils legal.

Conclusion

Our nation is in trouble with God, and His judgment is on the horizon. We, as Christians, have the power to change this if we will take our responsibility to vote seriously. We can put God-fearing leaders in our government, if we choose to do so.

God has called us to be salt and light in this world. Sadly, we have believed the lie that Christians are not to be involved in politics. We have been told that we must leave our religious beliefs out of the voting booth. When Christians don’t vote, or when they don’t let righteousness guide their vote, they are actually aiding the enemies of our nation and of Christianity.

We must be a voice for righteousness in our communities. I know it is getting late, but if you are not registered to vote, get registered before it is too late. Then get out and vote!

We are in a spiritual battle and we need to take our part in God’s army.

For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. (Ephesians 6:12)

Our fight requires our living righteous lives which shame the lost world. It involves getting the Gospel out. These are the spiritual aspects, but we must also take our responsibility as citizens seriously. Voting is not just a right, in is an obligation for all citizens. We need to know the issues that face our nation, and we need to vote righteousness.

It is a shame that so few Americans even bother to vote. It is even a greater shame that only about 25% of Christians vote.
