The Gun Debate Treating the Symptoms and not the Sin

Mass Shooting in Florida — 17 Killed HS in Parkland

There has been a lot of discussion over the shooting in Parkland Florida. Sadly 17 were killed. This is another scourge on the American culture. We have a plague of children killing children in our schools.

As usual, the Gun-Control Debate wages again. Emotions are high and when we are hurting we naturally want to see a stop to this. When we are emotionally charged, we have knee-jurk reactions and those who should know better are ready to make concessions on the Second Amendment.

A lot of opinions are being expressed. I think we are missing the real issue. Personal responsibility for actions seems to be totally ignored. Most of the things being discussed treat the symptom and not the disease. This means they are trying to stop the hurt without treating what is causing the pain.

Many are blaming guns, but blaming guns is like blaming forks for people being overweight. Blaming the tool is foolish, we have to blame the one who is using the tool.

Mental Illness Angle

People are saying that we need to have laws that prevent those who are mentally ill from having guns. The argument may have some validity, but we need to remember that when we make laws concerning things that are intangible, like mental illness, you will open the door to many problems. Mental illness is not something that is easy to put your finger on.

There are some things that are pathological, and not psychological. Pathological means that there is something that is not mental, but it is affecting your mental abilities, making you depressed and giving you temporary imbalance. Sometimes there is a need for medical treatment because there is a pathological cause that manifests itself through mental illness.

On the other hand, a lot of things that happen in the metal arena are suppositions. Let me give you an example of what I am talking about. On February 13, 2018. View star, Joy Behar accused the Vice President Mike Pence’s hearing Jesus is a ‘mental illness and because of his Christian beliefs. She is an entertainer, and has no background in mental illness, but there are already signs of Christianity being viewed as mental illness by some. It is considered a mental crutch for weak people.

If they can classify Christianity as a mental illness, laws that prevent those with mental illness from having guns will allow them to take guns away from all Christians. Can you see where this is going?

The Second Amendment gives the right to keep and bear arms to every law abiding citizen. If they pass a law that keeps those considered to have a mental illness from owning guns, the right can be taken away from anyone who some government official deems to be mentally ill because he disagrees with their world view.

Here is another example. Jimmy Kimmel, a professional psychiatrist and entertainer has diagnosed anyone who questions gun-control with mental illness. This is the left judging the right as having a mental illness simply because they disagree on the issue of gun control.

In an article by Bradford Richardson in The Washington Times – Wednesday, December 6, 2017 we find that MSMBC host, Chris Matthews said evangelical Christians in the South are crazy because they have “mythical beliefs” about the ancient city. (Reference to Trump’s plan to move embassy to Jerusalem). Again, according to Matthews, Christians are mentally ill because they believe Jerusalem belongs to Israel.

The idea that Christianity is an enemy of the state is growing on the left. They think that our ideas of righteousness are unreasonable and dangerous.

Here is an example of what the left thinks is reasonable. Recently the courts removed a child from her home because the parents refuse to support her delusion that she is a boy. They said it was because of their Christian religious fanaticism.

Trans gender ideology causing child abuse

On July 27, 2017 – Dr. Michelle Cretella, President of the American College of Pediatricians, is concerned trans-gender ideology has infiltrated her field and is producing large-scale child abuse.

The website Snopes is trying to say that this true, but here is the truth:

What sounds Mentally Ill —- Crazy — Lost touch with reality????

Does the following really sound true?

  • Nothing exploded and formed spheres with a soup of gases, liquids and something crawled out of it and all life came from it.

  • We descended from Monkeys (or some other animal)

  • That’s not a baby in there…… it just tissue.

  • He is not a boy, he is really a girl.

  • Islam is really a religion of peace.

Forget what you learned in school, do these things really make sense? Who has really lost touch with reality? Who is mentally ill? I just wonder.

Back to Gun Debate —–

We are treating the symptoms not the disease. The problem is, man is naturally sinful.

The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? (Jeremiah 17:9)

We have got to get back to treating the sinfulness of man. Until we do, wickedness will only continue to advance.

And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. (Genesis 6:5)

We must recognize that we are not just evolved animals, we are special creations of God. As long as we keep teaching our children they are just animals, we can expect them to act like animals.

Although we are fallen creatures, God has given us His Word, the Bible, to guide us. The farther we depart from its teachings, the more evil we see in this world. Without this constraint, man is left to himself, and every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. Open your eyes and you will see this truth all around you. Our children, and adults also, are unruly because we have stopped disciplining our youth.

Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child; but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him. (Proverbs 22:15)

Since we have taken God and discipline out of our schools, it has only gotten worse. What else should we expect?

Our founding fathers knew that no law could be passed that would force a person to to what is right. There had to be something more.

John Adams said….

There is no government in the world able to make a person to do what is right or able to control those who do not wish to be controlled…..”

We have no government armed with power capable of contending with human passions unbridled by morality and religion.”

We must have religious standards to control the passions of men. When Adams said this, religion meant Christian because everything else was called paganism, atheism, or Muhammadanism.

Laws can punish wrong doing, but only some inside force can control the passions of men.

The only solution to the problem is a return to God’s precepts, the precepts upon America was founded, and the precepts that made her great.
